Jason* is 45 years old and suffered a brain injury in a car accident. He was placed in a nursing home, but wanted to move into Supported Independent Living where he could live more independently with others of the same age.

Carpentaria’s Occupational Therapist completed an assessment to support him to gain additional NDIS funding, and provided staff with hoist and manual handling training. Upon the removal of his PEG tube, Carpentaria’s Occupational Therapist worked with Jason to teach him how to eat with a spoon and worked alongside his Speech Pathologist to provide feeding advice to staff to reduce his choking risk. His staff were also supported to gather photos for his walls and to make these into a book to support communication with staff and visitors.

Jason is now settled into his new home and enjoys being able to feed himself his favourite snack.
