Maggie* was living in a house with two others but was finding it difficult to get along with her flatmates. Carpentaria’s team started investigating suitable options for alternate accommodation, and Paula* was highlighted as someone who may be a compatible flatmate.

Paula had been accessing Short Term Accommodation (STA) with Carpentaria for several years and was preparing for a transition into Supported Independent Living. Paula enjoyed swimming, craft and afternoon walks, which were activities that Maggie also liked.

Compatibility testing commenced with a morning tea and a shared lunch, and progressed to an STA stay over one month where personality dynamics could be carefully assessed, and guardians and staff could provide feedback. It was clear that Maggie and Paula enjoyed each other’s company and a suitable home with a pool was identified. They can now be found each afternoon taking a walk or swimming in the pool, enjoying their new living arrangements.
