Mary* was discharged from hospital into the Ready for Home program as a full time wheelchair user, however the manual wheelchair she was using was painful, heavy and not suitable for long term use.
Carpentaria’s team submitted an NDIS funding request for a powered wheelchair with tilt, lift and seat elevation capabilities. The application was successful and Mary is able to now independently participate in shopping, socialising and community activities, as well as staying connected to family and culture.
Mary is proud to independently travel in her wheelchair, without needing to rely on others. She can regularly be seen with a smile on her face on the pathway between Harry’s Place and Casuarina Shopping Centre.
