Paul* uses a wheelchair and lives with a stoma, which also functions as his PEG feeding site. When he transitioned to Carpentaria’s SIL program, he was experiencing complications with his stoma, which significantly affected his overall health and made it difficult to participate in regular hydrotherapy classes.
A comprehensive health review was conducted, and an external stoma nurse began visiting Paul twice a week to provide specialised care. The SIL team conscientiously followed the recommended care procedures to promote healing. As a result, Paul’s overall health improved, and the team were able to successfully advocate for him to resume hydrotherapy classes.
Paul now attends hydrotherapy each week, where he enjoys the freedom of the water and the many positive health benefits this therapy provides.
