Several weeks ago, John, one of our Supported Employees in the Cafe at Harry’s Place, wanted to whip up his grandmother’s pumpkin loaf. This treat was a childhood favourite for John, and he was keen to share it with his colleagues and customers.
John has been working in the Cafe for over 2 years now, and he’s always keen to learn new skills. John was confident his grandmother’s pumpkin loaf recipe would be popular, and he was right – it’s been a hit! The first batch of pumpkin loaf ran out the door the very next day, so John has now baked several more loaves.
Working alongside our Cafe Supervisor, Belle, John was supported to bake, decorate, and portion his pumpkin cake ready for customers to enjoy. As a training Cafe, our main focus is creating learning opportunities, while letting each team member shine, and supporting our trainees to achieve their goals.
Practicing this recipe has helped John sharpen his baking skills, and we’re sure this sweet treat will become part of the regular rotation. Keep an eye out for a slice of pumpkin loaf next time you visit!
