Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AO, Administrator of the Northern Territory and Carpentaria Patron officially opened the Carpentaria Therapy Services program today.
Carpentaria has recently consolidated and expanded its Allied Health program into Carpentaria Therapy Services, which encompasses therapy for children, young people and adults in urban and remote locations. Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Psychology services are available to meet a range of requirements.
Carpentaria CEO Annie Rily is proud to see the program increase capacity to provide important Allied Health services to more Territorians.
“This program caters for children, young people and adults of all ages, during different life stages and with different requirements. We are really proud to be delivering services in the urban area as well as providing remote outreach to communities,” she said.
“Traditionally, Carpentaria delivered early intervention services to children aged up to 6 years, but under the National Disability Insurance Scheme, we have the capacity to provide Allied Health services for people of all ages. During 2018/19, we experienced a 317% increase in NDIS referrals for Speech Pathology and a 100% increase in NDIS referrals for Occupational Therapy and our team of experienced Allied Health professionals is growing to meet demand.
“We have also developed an innovative Post School Program for school leavers which is created by Allied Health professionals and delivered under a hybrid model with Carpentaria Adult Day Program, promoting a pathway for participants with aspirations of securing employment or volunteer opportunities.
“In addition, the team have the necessary skills to provide consultancy services, including training of specialised skills, professional supervision and Building Access auditing, along with a Specialist Coordination of Supports for NDIS participants with complex requirements.
“It really is a dynamic and exciting time for the disability sector,” she said.
