The availability of group therapy sessions is one was the Therapy Services team is expanding access to parent capacity and skill building opportunities. The groups are tailored to individual attendee requirements and facilitated by a Carpentaria by a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist and an Allied Health Assistant.
One family on Carpentaria’s waitlist opted for group therapy sessions while waiting for one-on-one therapy sessions to become available. The mother and daughter attended a school readiness group and a language and play skills group, and appreciated the social and practical skills they learnt and practiced during this time.
During follow-up conversations, it became clear that the family now felt better equipped to support their daughter and no longer required one-on-one therapy sessions. They are looking forward to consolidating skills and strengthening their social connections at future group sessions.
