Therapy Services staff regularly visit remote communities to deliver one-on-one and group therapy intervention. Working in collaboration with community-based organisations is key to the success of all visits and critical to person-centred outcomes.
A remote community participant with a degenerative disease expressed his wish to create a book to share his life story and the importance of a cultural lifestyle with the young people in his community. This project has been significant in working towards client-centred outcomes as well as promoting traditional and culturally appropriate activities in remote communities.
A Carpentaria Speech Pathologist is working alongside him and his family to communicate the key elements for the book. She is central to the collaborative approach required to realise this project, and is involved in discussions with the Regional Council, disability support services, community clinic, school, other Allied Health Professionals and the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Everyone in the community is very excited about seeing the finished product and sharing the published book with all community members.
